Cala n Porter is only about 10-15 min's from the airport and is well signposted and easy to find. The town of Cala en Porter is not that big and you could walk from one side to the other in less than 20 minutes. At the center of Cala 'n Porter is a good selection of restaurants, shops and bars and its nice to just stroll around. On Sundays you will find many places that do traditional roast dinners. There is a big supermarket that sits opposite the castle restaurant that sells most home comforts and is perfectly adequate for the weekly shop and you can also get your English newspapers there, though they are quite expensive – 2 euros for the Sun, or about £1.65. This is also where you will find the road that runs directly down to the beach. Just turn right at the supermarket and follow it all the way down until you hit the beach.

The promenade by the beach at Cala n Porter |
The beach at Cala en Porter is quite large and can accommodate
many people, it is formed by the cliffs that surround the sand below on a beach
that slopes gently out to sea making it quite suitable for smaller children
to play and enjoy.
Depending on which way the wind is blowing the surrounding high walled cliffs
can provide shelter from the strong winds that sometimes occur. It is advisable
to be careful when sunbathing during breezy days as you can often feel a good
few degrees cooler than it actually is.
Sun beds and parasols are available for hire but are not cheap. There are also
some bars and shops, some have chairs and tables outside that sit right next
to the beach so you can have a cool beer or buy some beach toys without having
to walk too far or change out of your togs.
Another thing to remember is that the car park is not that big compared to the
size of the beach and can fill up very quickly. If you fancy leaving the car
behind there is a mini train that runs down the road from the town to the beach.
The kids will love it! It runs all day until late and stops at regular pickup
points along the way.
If you intend to try the steps down to the beach a bit further on, take care.
They are quite steep and not very child or pushchair friendly. There will probably
also be a few steps missing.
*** Whilst at the beach watch out for the red flags. These warn of strong winds and currents that can cause inflatables and anything else not nailed down to suddenly disappear.
The coves at Coves d'en Xoroi |
There are many bars with dancing, karaoke or pool tables in Cala n Porter.
But if you want to try somewhere a bit more unusual, try the nightclub inside
the Coves d'en Xoroi. It is very atmospheric and very popular, even in the winter
with the locals.
